Sailing in the Abaco Islands aboard the “Moment”!
I have always wanted to take the waterway across the State of Florida, and finally did that. I started on the east coast and entered the canal at Stuart, FL. Great things to see and it gets you into the heartland of Old Florida. Roland Martin Marina was bustling with bass fishermen busy by day that are thirsty by night. Then the trip took us to Ft. Meyers, Sanibel Island, Cabbage Key, and Useppa Island.
I just LOVE Cabbage Key, so get over there and visit sometime. I wrote a trip advisor post, but there is nothing much to do there and by the end of the day you don’t get that done, so great place to disappear from the grid and enjoy nature. www.cabbagekey.com.
The next leg of the journey was to the southern part of Sanibel Island, to Marco Island, Marathon, Key West, Marathon, Miami, and then to Ft Lauderdale. We stopped for fuel and a visit with friends in Coral Gables and I noticed both bildge pumps were running…..not a good sign. We raced to get out of the marina as we were taking on water RAPIDLY from a blown shaft seal. I called my office and we found a lift that was waiting for us and all was well.
I highly recommend you take this circumnavigation yourself over a few months if necessary. You’ll have a blast!
Friends have joined me for the trip to very northern Michigan. Touched the north Channel and the weather is very chilly and unpredictable yet great for cruising. On way now to Mackinac Island!! We have heard so much about it. Jackets and ties required at the Grand Hotel after 6:30pm so lemme go see what i can put together!
After two nights in Toronto we sailed south across Lake Ontario and took a tour of the FALLS!! Amazing time so went went back last night to see them at night. Back to the real world a while and back to boat in a few weeks.
After touring the Boldt and Singer Castles we cruised into Canadian waters. We arrived in Kingston for Canada Day and had a great time seeing the town and watching fireworks. A morning cruise to a small town called Cobourg was nice. Guests leave and arrive and yesterday afternoon we cruised the beautiful Lake Ontario, ate a delicious casserole I brought from Betsy at Cassaroles Inc, Atlanta. Amazing sunset and pulled into Toronto harbor to all the big city lights. About to go ashore now!!
